ads, ads, everywhere

Both Salon and The Economist seem to be experimenting with sponsored access to subscriber content. You watch a short ad, then they let you access stories that would otherwise require handing over money. Not a bad trade for someone like me, who isn’t likely to pay for online content, but I wonder if the companies realize that I’m also likely to switch windows and do something else while the ad plays.

I have to confess that I actually like Absolut Vodka’s flash game ads, though. It’s a nice change from blinky animated things at the side of the page.
